EHSI Services

EHSI is under contract for the NCCCS to provide a number of services in order to ensure safe community college campuses within NC. We serve 58 different community colleges and look forward to meeting with you to discuss how we can complement your safety program. Our contract includes:

Safety Inspections: that can help colleges recognize workplace hazards that could potentially cause serious injuries or expensive OSHA fines. An annual inspection of your welding shops, chemistry labs, wood shops, and any other high hazard work area on your campus is an excellent way to eliminate hazards and prevent injuries. EHSI can show you how to audit your Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to ensure they match with the chemicals in your labs and shops.

OSHA Required Safety Training: is provided by EHSI for your faculty and staff. Training can take place on campus or online through our SafetyNet webinars. A listing of prescheduled courses can be found on our website under SafetyNet Online Training or EHSI can cover a wide variety of topics onsite customized for groundskeepers, custodians, maintenance workers, and lab technicians.

Indoor Air Quality Assessments: if you have employees who are concerned with the air quality in their area. give us a call and let us come and perform monitoring for a wide variety of common indoor air quality issues – even mold (there are lab fees involved for these). EHSI maintains an inventory of modern, high quality air quality monitoring instruments that can help us pinpoint what might be causing some of the employee and student discomfort at your college.

Fume Hood Air Velocity Tests: are required at most colleges and required that fume hoods be tested annually. Most colleges require that fume hoods are tested annually. It is important to keep your labs compliant through yearly monitoring.

Tier II Reports: are filed annually and EHSI will work with community colleges to enter your furnished, updated chemical information and will provide to CC’s both zip file and PDF for you so that you can file promptly in February.

Annual Safety Conference: hosted by EHSI every spring. This three-day event is a great time to collaborate with peers and enjoy innovative safety training.

The mission of the Environmental Health and Safety Institute is to assist the NC community colleges in their pursuit of safe and healthy workplaces. EHSI currently provides safety training, inspections and air quality testing.
