OSHA Training for New Employees Part 1: Newly hired NC community college employees that require training in several important OSHA standards will find this two part series interesting and informative. OSHA Training for New Employees Part 2: Newly hired NC community college employees that require training in several important OSHA standards will find this two part series interesting and informative. Part 2 of this series will cover personal protective equipment, basic electrical safety and fire prevention.

Hazard Recognition & Accident Prevention for Trades: This course is geared towards instructors in the vocational trades including but not limited to welding, machining, automotive/autobody, carpentry, and HVAC.  We will focus on identifying and eliminating hazards commonly found in CC shops in order to prevent injuries to instructors and students.  This two hour session will cover electrical safety, fire prevention, chemical labeling and storage, machine guarding and ladder safety. We will also discuss Instructors’ legal responsibilities in the classroom

ANNUAL REFRESHER – Chemical Hazard Communication & Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure: This course is a safety refresher for CC faculty and staff who have previously completed OSHA Training Parts 1 and 2, which cover general workplace safety awareness and hazard recognition. The refresher includes the OSHA-required annual bloodborne pathogens awareness training and a review of chemical hazard communication and safety practices, reinforcing safe work procedures, exposure prevention, and regulatory compliance. 

Chemical Hygiene and Lab Safety: Intended for faculty members who work in our science labs, training will cover some best practices in laboratory management and go over some of the many pitfalls to avoid.  Topics will include chemical safety, chemical storage, Hazard Communication and Labeling, and spill response/waste management.  

Holiday Safety: This webinar includes Fall Prevention, Electrical Safety, Fire Prevention and Holiday Decorating Safety

Groundskeeper Safety: This session will cover basic training on preventing employee injuries while doing groundskeeping tasks and using landscaping equipment.

Heat Stress Awareness & Groundskeeper Safety: This session will cover basic training on preventing employee injuries related to heat stress and while performing groundskeeping tasks, including the safe use of landscaping equipment.

ARC Flash and Electrical Safety: This session will cover the basics of electrical safety and recognizing potential hazards in the workplace. Electrical Safety is focused on safety related work practices from Subpart “S”. Training will include Arc Flash Awareness and will discuss the NFPA 70E 2015 standard, what an arc flash is, and proper work procedures and PPE to protect electrical workers. An arc flash is the dangerous explosive release of electrical energy caused by an electrical arc due to either a phase to ground or phase to phase fault. The explosive energy released can consist of heat, pressure wave, vaporized metal (plasma) molten metal and shrapnel. It is imperative that the proper PPE, tools, and work practices are implemented.

Asbestos Awareness: Asbestos can cause disabling respiratory disease and various types of cancers if the fibers are inhaled (smaller potential is ingestion). As a result, if you have a potential of being exposed to asbestos on the job, OSHA requires that your employer inform you of the information contained in the asbestos standard and its appendices.

It is the goal of this presentation to teach you about asbestos, where it is typically found, and potential health effects from exposure. More importantly, this presentation will review appropriate work practices and inspection procedures that will help you to minimize any potential exposure to asbestos.

You should, in conjunction with this training, review with your supervisor the specific locations and types of asbestos within the facility where you work. By doing so, you and your employer will comply with the OSHA asbestos hazard communication requirements for housekeeping operations found at 29 CFR 1910.1001(j)(7)(iv).

Critical Response Training (CRT): Critical Response Training (CRT) is a hands-on program geared toward Good Samaritans, teaching essential life-saving skills for emergencies. It includes Stop the Bleed training, where participants learn how to apply a tourniquet and pack wounds to control severe bleeding, as well as instruction on using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to respond to cardiac emergencies. CRT helps everyday people act quickly and confidently when every second counts.

Fire Extinguisher Training: This training is a hands-on program designed for community college employees, teaching the basics of fire safety and how to respond quickly to small fires. Participants learn proper extinguisher use, including the PASS method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep), and practice with the BullEx Fire Extinguisher Training System, which provides a realistic, no-mess training experience. This training helps staff act safely and effectively in the early stages of a fire emergency.
