2022 ACCSSO Conference

2022 proved to be a year of growth for ACCSSO at this year’s ACCSSO Conference. This year’s conference was held at the Historic Biltmore Village in Asheville, NC on April 27-29.

Day one started off with the annual ACCSSO business meeting at the A-B Tech. CC-Ferguson Auditorium where we held the nomination and election of officers. ACCSSO elected Zac Schnell from Pamlico CC as the new President of ACCSSO. Zac was previously the Vice President of ACCSSO and Richard Abell was elected as the new Vice President of ACCSSO. After the meeting we ended our day with an evening reception at the Hi-Wire Brewery.

2022 Executive Board Members (From Left to Right): Crystal Savell, Chris Schott (Treasurer), Richard Abell(VP), Misty Massingale (Dist. I Rep.), Melissa Wilson(Vice Treasurer), Dennis Smith (Dist. III Rep), Damita Reed (Dist. II Rep), Zac Schnell (President)-Not Pictured.

Thursday began with a series of presentations with loads of information throughout the day and catering provided by EHSI. Richard Abell, Matthew Needham, and Dennis Smith started off the meeting with a presentation on the policies and procedures for security officers during day to day operations. Justin Ogden from Verkada showcased their security systems and showed some impressive features that can be used to improve campus security across the community college system. ACCSSO members also had the opportunity to learn about workers comp claim management with the help of our presenter Dorothy Strickland from the NCCC System Office. Chip McDonald, the President of the Safety and Health Council, gave us an introduction to the MESH Certification program and the variety of different MESH certifications that are available. Steve Brooks and Sally Clark from Brook Network Services gave a presentation on security mass communication technology and talked about how they upgrade existing infrastructure to current technology and security. Brooks Network Services also let us know they use their own technicians instead of using contractors for any jobsite installations. We ended the meeting with a Slips, Trips, and Falls presentation by Ted Hendrix and Jill Warren from NC DOL. After the meeting we had a good time at the McCormick Field Baseball Game sponsored by Brooks Network Services.

Congratulations to Richard Abell for winning the prize drawing for the 55-inch TV from our Sponsor Verkada

Friday morning started with a NC OSH Q&A session with where everyone had the opportunity ask Ted Hendrix and Jill Warren from NC DOL about any OSHA compliance questions they had. After the Q&A session, the group traveled to the Biltmore Estate to attend the Biltmore House Tour followed by a lunch at Stable Café Loft sponsored by Verkada. The day ended with a Biltmore House Safety and Security Q&A by the Safety Manager, Mack Salley.

We sincerely appreciate the hard work and support of everyone involved. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves at this year’s conference and we look forward to the future of ACCSSO as we continue to grow and improve ACCSSO as a collective effort to show the importance of building relationships with each other to improve the safety and security of everyone in the community college system.
